You need a water resistant layer over shaped and flat nappies.

There are differently shaped wraps to go over shaped nappies or prefolds.

Motherease do a popper wrap (Air Flow) and a velcro (Rikki) which are made in Canada. 
Popolino is the European made version, with the same fabric and design but different packaging.
